Fund The UN began operations in Fiscal Year 2017, with seed funding of $4,000 from The Unforgotten Fund. After obtaining approval from the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs in November 2017, and tax-exempt status from the US Internal Revenue Service in December 2017, Fund The UN launched this website, and associated platforms. Fund The UN is now an active 501(c)3 public charity capable of accepting tax-deductible donations for the United Nations from individuals, and providing donors with tax-deductible receipts. The United Nations, as a global international organization of member nation-states, cannot provide individual donors with receipts they can use to claim a tax deduction on their tax returns, and so this third party — Fund The UN, was created to channel donations directly to UN Charities. Donations received by Fund The UN will be granted to the UN Charities that are working on the front lines to save lives in large-scale humanitarian emergencies.
